New author soars at Printers Row Literature Fest

It was Aaron Hanania’s first book and first appearance at the 35th Annual Printer’s Row Literature Fest (Printers Row Book Fair) held on Saturday and Sunday June 8 and 9, 2019 at Polk Street and Dearborn Street.

The 2019 Printers Row Lit Fest, presented by founding organization the Near South Planning Board, returns to its roots to bring you the 35th annual book fair, with a bigger footprint along South Dearborn Street from Polk Street to the newly named Ida B. Wells Drive (Congress Parkway). This year’s fair includes more book dealers, all-free programs, a kids favorite book character costume parade, and much more.

Aaron autographed and sold doezens of books to attendees who were impressed by a young author’s creation.

In his new Science Fiction mystery novel, high school junior, blogger and first-time novelist Aaron Hanania takes us into a world in which the norms of human dignity and life are taken to the extreme. A scientist creates a revolutionary experiment, The King’s Pawn, in which the participants are unaware of the roles that they play in what is expected to be a literally perfect world.

The scientist soon discovers her “methodically controlled society” creates unforeseen tensions and ominous uncertainty for the unknowing participants, but brings the scientist unimaginable profits, fame and power. But what the scientist doesn’t expect is that the power of human curiosity can overcome any barrier, experimental boundaries or expectations.

Two children in The King’s Pawn play a critical role after discovering that they have unrestricted control over the experiment’s outcome. The future of this unusual experiment rests in their hands, creating thrilling and unexpected consequences.

“I really enjoyed speaking with attendees at the Printers Row Literature Fest about the book, how I wrote it and why I think young people need to be nurtured more in writing,” said Aaron Hanania, who noted that rain on Sunday limited his presentation.

“I had an idea for the book and I used my iPhone during downtime while I was in high school during my junior year. The Apple iPhone is my generation’s typewriter. That seemed to really amaze many of the people who stopped at my table to chat, view the book and purchase their autographed copies.”

The Printers Row Lit Fest, the largest free outdoor literary showcase in the Midwest, marks its 35th year with an expanded outdoor presence and a return to its original roots as a community-based celebration for book lovers presented by the not-for-profit Near South Planning Board.

The much-anticipated 2019 Printers Row Lit Fest took place along Dearborn Street from Dearborn Station to the newly named Ida B. Wells Drive (formerly Congress Parkway), rain or shine, Saturday – Sunday, June 8 – 9, from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

More than 100,000 visitors were expected to attend the two-day festival, which featured carefully selected offerings from over 100 booksellers; everything from the tattered to the rare to ‘hot off the press,’ and the newly published works.
