Aaron Hanania hosts book signing & discussion on writing Oct. 25
High school author Aaron Hanania will hold a book signing for his new book “The King’s Pawn” and a discussion on why schools need to change the way they teach writing to young people.
Aaron Hanania, 17, will autograph copies of his book at an appearance at the Oak Lawn Public Library at 9427 Raymond Avenue between 6 pm and 8 pm. The event will be held in Meeting Room A (Rotary Room).
“I believe very strongly that schools need to change the way they teach English composition and focus initially on helping young people recognize and then tell stories,” the high school senior explained.
“Right now, schools teach students how to construct sentences and concentrate on the mechanics of writing rather than on the substance of what we should be learning, which is how to write the great story. I think schools should be teaching students how to identify a good story. What makes a great story? How to document a great story?”
Aaron Hanania explains that he understands students should be taught the basics, but not enough effort goes into helping students clearly envision the story that their writing and their imaginations can produce. Students should be taught the basics then taught how to identify, create and structure stories before they learn the complex aspects of English composition.
Aaron Hanania said that students can look first into their own lives and write non-fiction before tackling fiction where they can create characters, develop complexities of characters and create realistic interactive dialogue.
“I have a lot of friends in school who know how to write the perfect sentence, but they just don’t know how to write the perfect story. What’s the point of knowing how to construct the perfect sentence if you don’t have anything of importance to share with the world?” Aaron Hanania asks.
“I want to explore that with guests at this autograph session, as well as talk about how I wrote the novel “The King’s Pawn.”
In his new Science Fiction mystery novel, high school junior, blogger and first-time novelist Aaron Hanania takes us into a world in which the norms of human dignity and life are taken to the extreme. A scientist creates a revolutionary experiment, The King’s Pawn, in which the participants are unaware of the roles that they play in what is expected to be a literally perfect world.
The scientist soon discovers her “methodically controlled society” creates unforeseen tensions and ominous uncertainty for the unknowing participants, but brings the scientist unimaginable profits, fame and power. But what the scientist doesn’t expect is that the power of human curiosity can overcome any barrier, experimental boundaries or expectations. Two children in The King’s Pawn play a critical role after discovering that they have unrestricted control over the experiment’s outcome. The future of this unusual experiment rests in their hands, creating thrilling and unexpected consequences.
